Mumbai: Chief of Jamaat-eIslami Hind, a socio-religious body , Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari has opposed BMC's circular to make yoga and Suryanamaskar compulsory for civic school students. He was in the city on Saturday to participate in a Sadbhavana rally which is part of a nation-wide campaign to promote peace and harmony that the organization has launched. “Bowing to one God is an article of faith for Muslims. They will never accept anything which forces them to deviate from this basic belief. We love our country and don't resent if non-Muslims worship the sun, the moon, rivers or mountains, but also expect others to honour our belief,“ said Umri.He said parents of Muslim children in BMC schools were worried that their wards will be forced to do Suryanamaskar if it is made mandatory in schools. Asked if Muslim parents would withdraw kids from civic schools if Suryanamaskar is made mandatory, he refused to reply.        TOI

Amnesty International row: Govt ‘paranoid’ for pressing sedition charge, says Karnataka HC
http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-news-india/amnesty-international-row-govt-paranoid-for-pressing-sedition-charge-says-karnataka-hc-2999750/
Bengaluru: Karnataka High Court has called the state govt “clearly paranoid’’ for pressing sedition charges and arresting a former policeman and two others for attempting to rally state police personnel to participate in a protest against low wages and poor working conditions in June this year.A single-judge Bench of Justice Anand Byrareddy granted bail to the former police official, V Shashidhar, and the two others in the sedition case here Thursday. Shashidhar, president of Akhila Karnataka Police Mahasangha, was arrested from his Bengaluru home past midnight on June 2. Basavaraj Koravankar, of Working Police Families Welfare Committee, and Gurupadayya, husband of a police official, was arrested in Dharwad the same day. They were accused of instigating police personnel — in an effort at “destabilisation of the government”, according to one of the charges — to go on mass leave on June 4.While granting conditional bail to the trio, Justice Anand Byrareddy observed: “There is no evidence of the entire police force rising in mutiny at the behest of the accused. The apprehension expressed by the State (government) of a state of anarchy and disorder on account of the petitioner’s campaign is clearly paranoid.”The court observed that the trio’s right “to tell the world…(about) plight of members of the lower rungs of police officer ought not to be curbed”.indian express

Bhopal:Following protests by employees and activists, MP State Open School (MPSOS) on Saturday cancelled its Aug-24 controversial order regarding the clear demarcation of Muslim and Hindu holidays for its employees.Issued by MPSOS director and coordinator PR Tiwari, the notification was objected to by many employees and activists who said that the organization was trying to create a divide among the employees on religious lines.Tiwari, however, had a completely different explanation for the notification. “People have unnecessarily making a fuss over this notification. The only reason behind issuing this was to decide leaves for workers. There are 25 leaves for a regular employee and the workers who are working on daily wages and collector rates have 5 leaves. So it was better to notify them on the pre- decided leaves then to wait before every occasion and announce it,” he said.HT

RLD had failed to win any seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. In 2009, it won 5 seats. indianexpress

Turkish army thrusts deeper into Syria, monitors say kill 35: Reuters

Turkey: Turkey's army and its allies thrust deeper into Syria on Sunday, seizing territory controlled by Kurdish-aligned forces on the fifth day of a cross-border campaign that a monitoring group said had killed at least 35 villagers.Turkish warplanes roared into northern Syria at daybreak and its artillery pounded what security sources said were sites held by Kurdish YPG militia, after the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported fierce overnight fighting around two villages.Turkey's military said 25 Kurdish militants were killed in its air strikes. There was no immediate comment from the YPG, but forces aligned with the Kurdish militia have said it withdrew from the area targeted by Turkey before the offensive.Turkish officials have openly stated that their goal in Syria is as much about ensuring Kurdish forces do not expand the territory they already control along Turkey's border, as it is about driving Islamic State from its strongholds. However, Turkey's offensive has so far focused mostly on targeting forces allied to the Kurdish-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a coalition that includes YPG, an Observatory source said. SDF has support from the United States, which sees the group as an effective Syrian ally against Islamic State.
