Punish my son if he's guilty, but I don't know who is Yasin Bhatkal: mother
http://www.deccanchronicle.com/nation/current-affairs/201216/punish-my-son-if-he-is-guilty-but-his-name-is-not-yasin-bhatkal-mother.html
Hyderabad: After Yasin Bhatkal was sentenced to death for the 2013 Hyderabad blasts, his mother claimed that his real name was Mohammad Ahmed Sidibapa, and not Yasin Bhatkal. “We have petitioned the High Court thrice in past against branding my son Mohammad Ahmed Sidibapa as ‘Yasin Bhatkal’ but nothing happened,” she said according to a report. We do not know who is Yasin Bhatkal. My brother’s name was Mohammad Ahmed Sidibapa and we do not know why my brother was named Yasin Bhatkal,” Abdul Samad, a close relative of Yasin was also quoted as saying. However, Yasin’s mother Rehana Begum added that if he had indeed committed the crime, he should be punished, because ‘nobody is bigger than the country’.On the other hand, Yasin’s father Zarar Sidibapa, who was taken ill after hearing the news, was too grief-stricken to speak. Maqdhoom Colony of Bhatkal showed no signs of grief on hearing of the judgement, said the report. Some people said they felt sorry for the family, but did not recognise Bhatkal as he had left the place 20 years ago. Deccan Chronicle

NIA court verdict awarding death sentence to 5 Muslim youth is a travesty of justice: CLMC
http://twocircles.net/2016dec20/1482252195.html#.WFpamPB97IU
Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee expressed grave concern over the death sentence awarded to 5 Muslim youth who were accused in the Dilsukhnagar blast case, and said it was based on an unfair trial.“This committee slams the way trial is conducted without providing any proper legal assistance. There are many errors in conducting trial, the foremost is NIA constituted a fast track court in Cherlapally high security prison. The access to the court for the advocates, media and people was restricted. It was conducted in hasty manner by avoiding due course of law,” the committee said.Hyderabad-based organisation added that conducting the trial in the four walls of a high security prison and awarding the death sentence to 5 Muslim youth by showing them as guilty of terror charges and responsible for Dilsukhnagar bomb blasts is nothing but travesty of justice. twocircles
Sentenced to death over Dilsukhnagar blasts: Family defends Aijaz Shaikh say ‘he is innocent, has been framed’

Pune:Family members of Aijaz Shaikh, who was sentenced to death in the Dilsukhnagar blasts case, have said that they believe he is innocent. They are now looking at various legal options to challenge the court’s ruling.Aijaz, 28, is among the 5, who were sentenced to death on over the 2013 bomb blasts at Dilsukhnagar, Hyderabad, in which 18 persons were killed.“It is a ruling by the court and we respect it, but we are not satisfied with it. Right now, we are looking for legal options to challenge this ruling. We have faith in our judicial system and we believe that my brother is innocent. He has been framed,” Aijaz’s elder brother Imtiyaz Shaikh told Pune Newsline.Aijaz is married and has a child. According to his family members, Aijaz’s wife and child live with her parents. After his arrest by the Delhi Police in Sept. 2014, Aijaz’s family members had defended him, saying he was a “secular” person who had many non-Muslim friends. Anjum Inamdar, a member of the state committee of the AIMIM who has defended Aijaz since his arrest, said, “Aijaz’s only fault is that he is the brother-in-law of Mohsin Chaudhary. This is yet another case of an innocent Muslim youth being framed by investigating agencies in India. Since 2001, these agencies have framed several Muslim youths. In cases such as Malegaon blasts or the Ajmer Sharif terror attack, where re-investigations were conducted, it was proved that Muslim youths were not involved. We have been demanding re-investigation in all terror cases since 2001.” Inamdar added, “We are with the family of Aijaz and will extend all possible legal help to them.” indianexpress
NIA court decision to be challenged
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/varanasi/nia-court-decision-may-be-challenged/articleshow/56083582.cms
Varanasi: While Gulami ka Pura locality of Azamgarh largely remained calm, a few people outside the locked house of Asadullah Akhtar alias Haddi alias Tabrez, one of 5 accused in Hyderabad twin blasts to be sentenced death penalty by a NIA court on Monday, looked tense. Asadullah's family has remained incommunicado but his sympathisers have hinted at challenging the court order. It seemed that his family had anticipated the court decision and chose to leave home to avoid interaction with anyone on this issue.Asadullah's father Javed Akhtar is a reputed orthopedic surgeon of Azamgarh. For this reason, his friends started calling him doctor and Haddi. Akhtar was present in his clinic at Brahmsthan town but avoided interaction with reporters.President of Rashtriya Ulema Council Maulana Aamir Rashadi, however, said the decision of NIA court would be challenged in higher court. "I have talked to Asadullah's father and we have decided to challenge this decision as NIA court has taken decision on the basis of chargesheet of same agency," alleged Rashadi, adding Asadullah had been falsely implicated.Ex-SIMI head Shahid Badra said this decision of NIA court would be challenged as in many past cases the decisions of session court had been quashed by the high court and the accused were acquitted.TOI

http://indianexpress.com/article/business/banking-and-finance/rbi-withdraws-rs-5000-deposit-limit-old-notes-kyc-4438520/
New Delhi:In a sharp U-turn by RBI, the restrictions imposed on bank deposits exceeding Rs 5000 in old notes have now been withdrawn by the central bank. In a circular issued to banks on Wednesday, RBI said it was revoking the restrictions after reviewing the case. On Monday, RBI announced that deposits in old notes will be limited to Rs 5000, and those exceeding the sum will come under scrutiny.“Tenders of specified bank notes (SBN) in excess of Rs. 5,000 into a bank account will be received for credit only once during the remaining period till Dec.30,” RBI said.It said that customers would have to answer questions such as why they couldn’t deposit the demonetised currency so far. Only after receiving a satisfactory reply would the bank credit the amount to the individual’s account, RBI said. It also added that deposits less than Rs 5000, but cumulatively exceeding the limit, will also be duly scrutinised. And the money deposited would be only credited to KYC complaint accounts, it said. RBI set Dec.30 as the deadline for making the deposits. indian express

Finance minister Arun Jaitley's clarification on Monday late night that banks will take more than Rs 5,000 deposits from customers without questioning if the amount is deposited in one go seems to have fallen flat as bankers are refusing to take such deposits without a written declaration, say various news reports. According to TOI, bankers are following the RBI's notification issued on Monday in letter and spirit which has given rise to the difficult situation.RBI and the finance ministry on Monday morning put out notifications saying customers will be allowed to deposit old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes worth more than Rs 5,000 only once before 30 Dec. Even then, they will have to satisfactorily explain to two bank officials why the deposits were not done earlier. firstpost

New Delhi; Election Commission of India (EC) will soon write to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) informing it about its decision to delist 200-odd political parties. A list containing details of the delisted parties will also form part of communique that EC will send to CBDT in “the next few days” for action. These political parties, many of which, EC officials suspect, could be nothing but money-laundering operations, are parties which have not contested any election since 2005 and exist mostly on paper.“This is just the beginning. We expect to weed out all non-serious parties. There are many that don’t even bother to file Income Tax returns or, if they do, they never send a copy to us,” said a source.EC data shows there are currently 7 National Political Parties, 58 State Parties and a whopping 1786 Registered Unrecognised Parties. indianexpress

PM Modi took bribe from Sahara India 9 times in 6 months, says Rahul Gandhi
http://www.ibtimes.co.in/pm-modi-took-bribe-sahara-india-9-times-6-months-says-rahul-gandhi-this-big-earthquake-he-was-709356
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday made a sensational revelation by saying that PM  Narendra Modi had been bribed nine times over a course of 6 months by employees of the Sahara India, according to notes in their diaries. This could well be the tremor Gandhi was talking about last fortnight, saying there would be an earthquake if he was allowed to speak in Parliament. Speaking at Mehsana in Gujarat — a state where assembly elections are due next year — Gandhi also said records of this monetary exchange to the tune of Rs 40.1 crore have been lying with Income Tax (I-T) Department for more than two years, but no action had been initiated. He called for an independent enquiry into the allegations. Gandhi told the rally: "Employees of the Sahara group wrote in their diaries nine times in 6 months that they had given money to Modi [when he was CM  of Gujarat]. I-T department raided the Sahara group on Nov.22, 2014."He added:"The proof has been lying with them for 2 and a half years, and no action has been taken in this regard. An independent enquiry must be initiated into this." IB Times

PoK, Kashmir, Pakistan, Bangladesh belong to India, says RSS's Indresh Kumar; also slams Personal Law Board
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/agra/pok-kashmir-pakistan-and-bangladesh-belong-to-india-says-rsss-indresh-kumar/articleshow/56088570.cms
Agra: Taking on ex-J&K CM Farooq Abdullah for his recent comments questioning India's claim over PoK, senior RSS functionary, Indresh Kumar said not only PoK but Kashmir, Pakistan and Bangladesh too belong to Hindustan, as they were carved out only in 1947. Launching a scathing attack on Farooq, Indresh, who was talking to media on sideline of RSS's Muslim Manch Sammelan, said, "he (Farooq) should not forget that even his entire family property is the property of Indian ancestors, as Kashmir had no existence prior to the partition". He warned that such provocative and divisive statements would not be tolerated. It may be recalled that while addressing a rally in Chennab on Nov 25 Farooq had taken a dig at India's claims over PoK and stated, "Is this your fathers' property". He had also stated, "PoK is presently under Pakistan occupation. It is not the personal property of India so that it could make a claim over it like an inherited property of forefathers." After Abdullah, Indresh took on another prominent Muslim leader and president of Asaduddin Owaisi over his opposition to chanting 'Bharat Mata ki jai'. He said, "God should give some sane sense to Owaisi, as despite his opposition people had started chanting the slogan". He said he had advised Owaisi to shun "violence and hardline" if he wanted to attain some stature outside Hyderabad."Whosoever opposesthe philosophy of One India One people will not be able to last", he said. Talking to media, Indresh, while referring to opposition from a section of Muslims against triple talaq, said, "such people must realize they have to respect the laws of the country they live in. India is a secular country and Muslims cannot have laws for themselves."He said that Muslim Personal Law Board was trying to impose 2 nation theory by claiming that they should have a separate set of rules according to their religion. "The time has gone when they could again try to divide Bharat", he said adding that all Maulanas, Imams and MPLB (Muslim Personal Law Board) members should note that their two nation theory would not work.Indresh also announced the Manch would collect money for divorced (triple talaq) women and the same would be used for their welfare.  For Kamal, 59, director of the International Film Festival of Kerala that ended last week, controversy is not new. What upsets the Left-leaning director is that Sangh Parivar activists refer to him by his given name — Kamaluddin Mohammed Majeed — whenever there is a controversy. The latest run-in has been over playing the national anthem at the film festival. Police picked up a dozen delegates who had failed to stand up when the anthem was being played before a show. “We asked all delegates to stand up for the national anthem. But the police action at the theatre was unfortunate. Police didn’t inform us about the move,” said Kamal, appointed chairman of festival organiser Kerala State Chalachithra Academy by LDF govt. BJP youth wing Yuva Morcha targeted Kamal, advising that “Kamaluddin Mohammed Majeed” move to Pakistan.“Over the years in the film industry, I have been known as Kamal,” said the popular director, who has made mainstream Malayalam films for 3 decades now.“Even my parents used to call me Kamal. I don’t remember ever being called Kamaluddin at home. I don’t know what they [BJP] meant by calling me Kamaluddhin. Srinagar: It's a law ostensibly meant to aid the recovery of debts but could result in the back-door acquisition of property by non-Kashmiris in J&K. Little wonder then that it's stirred a hot debate in the state, where only Kashmiris are permitted to acquire property.J&K  govt  contended in the High Court that the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest (SARFAESI) Act that parliament passed in 2002 wasn't applicable in the state due to its special status under Article 370 of the Constitution. The ruling came in 2015 on a challenge to a State Bank of India decision to enforce the act to recover its dues from a defaulter. The Supreme Court overturned this last week.Passed by Parliament in 2002, it states: "If borrower of financial assistance makes any default in repayment of loan or any installment and his account is classified as non-performing asset by secured creditor, then secured creditor may require before expiry of period of limitation by written notice to the borrower for repayment of due in full within 60 days by clearly stating amount due and intention for enforcement.""Where he does not dischage dues in full within 60 days, then without intervention of any court or tribunal secured creditor may take possession (including sale, lease, assignment) of secured asset, or take over management of business of borrower or appoint manager for secured asset or without taking any of these actions may also proceed against guarantor or sell the pledged asset, if any," the act says.IANS

China sticks to its stand on Masood Azhar despite NIA charge sheet
http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/defence/china-sticks-to-its-stand-on-masood-azhar-despite-nia-charge-sheet/articleshow/56104587.cms
Beijing: India's move to charge sheet Masood Azhar in the Pathankot terror attack appears to have not made much impact on China as Beijing today said any move by New Delhi to bring about a UN ban on the JeM chief must be in line with rules and procedures laid down by the Security Council. "On the question of listing in the 1267 Committee, I have expressed the Chinese position many times," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying told PTI in response to a question on NIA listing Azhar, the head of Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad, as terrorist in the charge sheet on the attack on an air force base in Pathankot in January this year. Maharashtra: Mujeeb an independent wins council president post on Ashok Chavan turf
http://indianexpress.com/article/cities/mumbai/maharashtra-independent-wins-council-president-post-on-ashok-chavan-turf-4437995/
Mumbai:A 46-year-old headmaster of an Urdu school has unsettled ex-CM  Ashok Chavan, having wrested control of the post of president of Mudkhed Municipal Council. Mudkhed is the former constituency of Chavan and was seen as his turf over the last 15 years. Mujeeb Jahagirdar Ansari’s win, perceived as a sign of the growing alienation of Nanded’s Muslims from Chavan, is even more bitter for the former CM  because his party, the Congress, has won 15 of the 17 seats in Mudkhed council. The present polls for 212 municipal councils and nagar panchayats are first to be held after the Maharashtra govt decided to revive the process of direct elections for municipal council presidentship with a view to make the civic body’s administration more effective and efficient.indianexpress
BJP using UCC to destroy Muslim identity: Karat
http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/kerala/BJP-using-UCC-to-destroy-Muslim-identity-Karat/article16912242.ece
Kannur; Accusing the BJP of using the issue of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) as a weapon to obliterate the identity of Muslims in the country, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Prakash Karat has said that the fundamentalist position insisting that instant and arbitrary triple ‘talaq’ is ordained by Islam will help communalists create a communal divide in the country. Addressing a seminar on ‘Uniform Civil Code and the Left’ organised by the coordination committee of minority cultural groups loyal to CPI(M) here, Karat said BJP govt  was trying to conflate and combine the issue of the misuse of the instant and arbitrary use of triple talaq with the enforcement of the UCC. Alleging that the Sangh Parivar had a planned agenda to demonise the Muslim community, he said the attempt was to portray Muslims as alien to the Indian mainstream.the hindu
